Consumers told to use government-endorsed app for best prices

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says the app is updated on a daily basis for consumers to check and compare prices among supermarkets.

GEORGE TOWN:
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has advised consumers to shop the smart way by making use of an under-utilised app to check and compare prices.

The app has been available for the past year, but has so far been downloaded only 40,000 times, said Saifuddin at a press conference during a Hari Raya open house today.

“Through this app, we can monitor whether prices of food items have increased.

“I invite all consumers to download this app and access it, so that they can compare prices among supermarkets,” he said.

Called Price Catcher, the app allows consumers to compare the prices of 417 items before they go shopping.

Those who are registered as Friends of KPDNKK will be able to log into the app which is available on the iOS and Android platforms.

Saifuddin said the ministry has 1,044 price checkers who work full-time, and they are on the ground updating the changing prices of goods every day.

“Be a smart consumer. Log into the e-aduan for our enforcement officers to take action if any offences are being committed.

“Consumers have to lodge complaints for us to take action. They can also directly get in touch with us.

“My job is to ensure food supply is enough and reasonably priced, which can be achieved with ethical business practices by the traders and smart consumers,” he added.
