Seri Delima assemblywoman Syerleena Abdul Rashid said she discovered the note while picking up mail at her centre at Jalan Delima at 3.30pm.
The handwritten note read: “Maut menanti kamu!” which translates to “death awaits you”. It was written on a foolscap paper in red ink.
Syerleena, a DAP leader, lodged a police report at the Jelutong police station at 7 pm yesterday.
“It is a serious threat to me and the members of my service centre. Police are using forensic means to analyse the note to possibly lift fingerprints from them,” she said at a press conference today.
On a different matter, Syerleena said she had lodged another police report over Facebook posts claiming she would “attack Islamic institutions, especially Jakim, for the sake of DAP”.
She said this was an “old, slanderous” claim that had been making its rounds on social media again after it was used to smear her in the recent general election.
Syerleena said this was the fourth time such lies were being spread and urged the police to investigate three other police reports made in past years as well.
Meanwhile, Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said Syerleena’s death threat report would be investigated for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication under Section 507 of the Penal Code.
The police, however, have yet to respond to the slanderous Facebook posting.
