PETALING JAYA:
A report is being prepared for the minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs to decide whether to continue the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia 2.0 under a new brand or to scrap it.

Its minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said today he had asked his officers to prepare a detailed report on the retail shop scheme.

He said no timeline has been given to complete the report.

“Besides studying the report, I will also seek other feedback before I make a decision,” he told FMT.

KR1M 2.0 was launched by former prime minister Najib Razak last February after the first initiative started in 2011 was scrapped.

Hypermarket chain Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd operated the first KR1M scheme but its managing director Ameer Ali Mydin complained the company suffered massive losses.

KR1M 2.0 is operated by supermarket chain Tunas Manja Group and KK Super Mart.

Saifuddin said his decision on KR1M 2.0 would take into consideration the views of its current operators and other relevant groups.
