HULU LANGAT:
Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar has reassured Selangor citizens water cuts and shortages will be a thing of the past with the completion of the Langat 2 water treatment plant (Langat 2).

The Edge reported him as saying that the plant would be able to supply an additional 1,130 million litres of treated water per day to Klang Valley residents, up till 2025.

The plant is now 72% complete and the first section of Phase 1 of Langat 2 is expected to supply state-owned water body Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) with 325 million litres of water per day (MLD) by November, Xavier said.

“We have a water reserve margin about 3% currently, so with this 325 MLD, of course, the water reserve margin will increase to 7% by November.

“Our main interest is to increase the current water reserve margin that we have in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and it will benefit about 1 million households,” he told reporters during his site visit to Langat 2.

The Langat 2 plant was mooted to accommodate the burgeoning Klang Valley populace. Initially scheduled for completion in 2019, issues in land, planning and approvals from related agencies has pushed completion to 2022.

Total cost of the plant is RM8 billion, comprising 19 packages including Hulu Langat, Cheras, Sungai Besi, Bukit Jalil, Petaling, Bandar Kinrara, Bukit Dengkil, Ampang, as well as Keramat AU3 in Selangor.
