Mahathir will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo and is scheduled to have a session with the Malaysian community in Jakarta.
A statement issued by the foreign affairs ministry said the trip was to allow Malaysia to highlight the government’s latest policies and its stand on several issues.
“Furthermore, both leaders will have the opportunity to exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest to both countries.”
Indonesia remains one of Malaysia’s important neighbours, with total bilateral trade experiencing a 22% increase to RM72.63 billion in 2017 compared with the year before.
The republic remains the country’s seventh largest trading partner globally and the third largest trading partner in Asean.
Mahathir’s visit to Indonesia follows his three-day working visit to Japan earlier this month.
