
Sources said those already chosen had started receiving calls from Mahathir since yesterday.
For others, negotiations are still ongoing between the prime minister and the respective parties, especially with PKR and DAP.
From PKR, some of the shortlisted MPs are Xavier Jayakumar (Kuala Langat), R Sivarasa (Sg Buloh), Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), and Kamaruddin Jaafar (Bandar Tun Razak).
Sources said Saifuddin Nasution and Fuziah Salleh were also on the list but at 11am today their names were apparently dropped. “Negotiations are still ongoing,” added a source.
As for DAP, Teresa Kok (Seputeh) and Chong Chieng Jen (Stampin) are still on the list.
However, several leaders from DAP told FMT that a final meeting on the names is still being concluded at the time of writing this article.
From Amanah, out of the 11 MPs who won the general election, at least five MPs are expected to be appointed as ministers and deputies.
As for Sabah, Darell Leiking (Penampang MP) and Azis Jamman (Sepanggar MP) are on the list.
A source told FMT that each component party had submitted a lot of names but Mahathir had been reevaluating the names on the list.
On May 21, 13 federal ministers took their oath of office in a ceremony at the royal palace before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
Mahathir had said his Cabinet would eventually have 25 ministers.
Since then, there has been a lot of speculation in the media on who will be in the Cabinet, with many Sabah and Sarawak MPs said to be on the list.
