“Please support Amir (Amirudin) as Pakatan Harapan’s representative,” said Anwar in his tweet today.
His comments come hours after Ijok assemblyman Idris Ahmad’s claim that he had the full support of all four Pakatan Harapan component parties for the position of Selangor menteri besar.
Idris said his name had been submitted to the Selangor sultan. The other two names put forward were Amirudin and Seri Setia assemblyman Prof Shaharuddin Badaruddin.
Amirudin, 38, was sworn in this morning as the new Selangor menteri besar.
He took his oath of office before Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at 10.25am at Istana Alam Shah.
Anwar, in his tweet, said the dispute over who should be menteri besar could be resolved amicably within Pakatan Harapan.
Amirudin takes over as Selangor’s 16th menteri besar, replacing Azmin Ali, who was picked as economic affairs minister by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Sungai Tua assemblyman was appointed as the youth and sports empowerment, entrepreneurship, rural and traditional villages development committee chairman under Azmin’s administration last month.
Amirudin, a social science graduate from Universiti Putra Malaysia, was a student activist and is known for his debating skills.
He grew up in Pontian, Johor, and was the manager of the Selangor football team, leading the team to two consecutive Malaysia Cup finals in 2015 and 2016.
He and his wife, Masdiana Muhamad, have six children.
