Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow posted a poignant message about his father, who died 32 years ago in March 1986, six months before Chow began his political journey as Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary in Penang.
“Born in Kuala Lumpur in 1922, he practically spent his whole life in the Chan Sow Lin area. He raised a big family working in a nearby factory until his death.
“How much does one see him in me? Honest, modest, humble, integrity, kind, and simple.
“Happy Father’s Day. I have not greeted you yet,” said the state DAP chairman on Facebook. Accompanying the post was a picture of Chow with a portrait of his late father.
The posting garnered over 4,000 likes and shares.
Following DAP’s big win in Penang, Chow, who is Padang Kota assemblyman, was sworn in as Penang Chief Minister, replacing two-term Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is now the finance minister.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad also posted a moving tribute to his late father-in-law, who passed away on Oct 9 last year.
“Wish you’re here Baba. How much l missed conversing with you; everytime I had a chance to, especially on the affairs of the rakyat and the nation.
“We’ve A New Malaysia now Baba, a change you dearly wanted. Happy Father’s Day,” he said in his posting on Twitter.
Also accompanying his post was a picture of him with his father-in-law in happier times.
In the 14th general election, Dzulkefly defeated Barisan Nasional’s Irmohizam Ibrahim to win the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat.
Every year, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in Malaysia.
