KUCHING:
The proposal to form a single multiracial party in Sarawak has been taken into consideration but it will take time to be implemented, says Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg.

“We take into account the proposal, but it is an evolution that we should not rush into even if the people have views on it or say the time has come… Understand the importance of consolidating first, then implement, it takes time,” he said here today.

He was commenting on the proposal by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president James Jemut Masing on the need to have a single multiracial party in the state.

Earlier Abang Johari, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, paid his last respects to the late Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations president Sim Swee Yong.

Abang Johari described the passing of Sim as a great loss to the community given his vast contribution and service in social work.

“Today, we lost a community leader who had worked hard to help, especially the Chinese community, and gave priority to social work and uniting the Chinese and non-Chinese communities,” he said.

Sim, 85, died of heart failure at a private medical centre here at 8.30pm last night.
