The 39-year-old diva said she gave her support to the idea when she met the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) today, based on the needs of the arts and performance industry, and the proposal was received well.
“I can’t speak on behalf of everyone as there were other representatives of the arts industry earlier who also put forward their suggestions.
“I have been asked to draft a memorandum on my suggestions and I hope to complete it as soon as possible,” she said when met by reporters at Menara Ilham after her presentation to the CEP.
The arts council idea was submitted by Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez at his meeting with the CEP last week, during a discussion on the overall arts industry, including theatre, writing and fine arts.
Siti Nurhaliza had previously volunteered to be an adviser to the Pakatan Harapan government on improving the arts and performance industry.
She said that with the government’s help, the welfare of artistes could be better looked after.
Siti Nurhaliza told the CEP the industry wanted artistes to be valued and, if possible, to have an institution that took care of the welfare of artistes in all aspects.
The institution should be helmed by someone from the arts industry and not have any political ties, she said.
The “Comel Pipi Merah” hitmaker also suggested setting aside a building dedicated to artistes, as a one-stop centre for them to craft and hone their ideas.
