He also rejected Jamal’s appeal to him for protection.
“What is there to protect? He knows he has committed an offence, and then he ran away. I leave it to the authorities.
“If he is guilty, action should be taken and he should face the law,” Muhyiddin said at a programme with the Prisons Department today.
Yesterday, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat had said police would apply for a warrant of arrest against Jamal.
Fadzil said Jamal still had six pending cases which were being probed in addition to the three cases that he had been charged with while undergoing medical treatment at the Ampang Puteri Medical Centre on May 25.
Jamal went missing from the private hospital last Friday, hours after he had been charged with three offences while he was undergoing medical treatment.
He had been offered RM3,000 bail on each charge but left the building while bail documents were being prepared.
One charge was for causing a public nuisance by smashing beer bottles with a sledgehammer in front of the Selangor state secretariat building last year, which carries a fine of RM400 on conviction. Two other charges are related to firearms and rioting.
In a video recording that went viral, Jamal said he felt he was being targeted and harassed by certain people who “had ordered the police to target him in any way possible”.
He said this was why he did not show up at the police station.
He said he believed police were being pressured by the Pakatan Harapan government and asked Muhyiddin to guarantee he would not be mistreated when he presented himself to the police.
Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Muhyiddin said the home ministry would check on the permanent resident status of controversial preacher Zakir Naik.
“I have not been given information on the matter,” he said.
