
The former pilot wants the current government to either reinstate him as a lieutenant colonel and declare that the earlier decision to dismiss him was political in nature, or approve pensions and other end-of-service payments for his 26-year service in the air force.
“I was just doing the right thing as a citizen and a serviceman… to be disciplined and truthful. However, these qualities were hated by the previous government.
“I was merely exposing the fact that the indelible ink used in the election could be washed off.
“As for going against the general orders of the Armed Forces Council by issuing a press statement without authorisation, the restriction applies to matters related to military and country secrets, not indelible ink, which is a private matter,” he said in an open letter to Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu.
The letter which was hand-delivered to Mohamad yesterday, among others asked the Pakatan Harapan government to save him as he had been a victim of the “Umno-Barisan Nasional” government.
Zaidi, who was a commanding officer at the Butterworth Air Base, was found guilty by a court martial panel in 2015 of making an unauthorised press statement on the use of indelible ink during the advanced voting process by the armed forces in the 13th general election in 2013.
He was dismissed from the force for “bringing public disrepute and contempt to the RMAF”.
Zaidi, who is currently a DAP member, is an information officer at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office and a part-time stevia seller.
