Speaking to reporters at Wisma MyPPP today, he said the party had no intention of joining Pakatan Harapan, Bernama reported. He had announced last week that the party was leaving the former ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional.
His decision and his position as party president has been disputed by myPPP deputy secretary-general Simon Sabapathy who told FMT last Saturday that Kayveas had been dismissed and was in no position to make decisions.
In response, Kayveas said he had received an official letter from the Registry of Societies confirming him as the rightful president of the party.
Today, Kayveas announced the 22 members of the Supreme Council for the 2018-2023 term, and said this was in accordance with the powers vested in the president by the party constitution.
The appointments include five vice-presidents, namely Gandi Muthusamy (senior vice-president), Zakaria Abdul Rahman, A.Chandrakumanan, Soma Sundram and Gilbert Goh Kian Puay.
“Right now, we are focused on restoring the party leadership. Honestly, I am disappointed with the treatment accorded to the party when it was in the BN,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
