The charge was read to the Red Shirts leader in hospital where he is seeking treatment for back pain.

AMPANG:
Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos claimed trial today to allegedly causing a public nuisance by smashing beer bottles with a sledgehammer in front of the Selangor state secretariat building last year.

He was charged under Section 290 of the Penal Code which carries a fine of RM400 on conviction.

The charge was read to Jamal at a specialist hospital here before Magistrate Raja Noor Adila from the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court.

Jamal is seeking treatment in the hospital for back pain.

The court set June 6 for the next hearing.

Last October, Jamal and his supporters brought crates of beer to the gate of the state secretariat building to protest against Menteri Besar Azmin Ali over the Better Beer Festival.

He was later remanded for investigations for rioting and causing a public nuisance.

Jamal has also run afoul of the law in two other instances.

He was remanded on Wednesday to facilitate investigation into a case where he allegedly showed off his gun on social media.

Jamal is also facing trial at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court for alleged rioting at a Bersih 5 roadshow last year.
