Azlan, who took the oath as menteri besar before Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail at Istana Arau, said there was no need for him to comment further on it.
“Tuanku’s speech is very clear. There is nothing for me to add,” the Bintong assemblyman said at a press conference after being sworn in.
The Perlis Ruler, in his off-the-cuff speech, explained why he consented to appoint Azlan as MB instead of Tambun Tulang assemblyman Ismail Kassim, the younger brother of Perlis Umno chairman Shahidan Kassim.
Meanwhile, PAS’ Sanglang assemblyman Mohd Shukri Ramli, welcomed the speech by the Ruler, saying he felt sad on hearing it.
“PAS is also unhappy. We are supposed to be focusing on the welfare of the people, but it has not turned out like that.
“By right, we should ditch party sentiments and jostling for positions. We should be serving the people.
“We need to pay heed to what Tuanku said,” added Shukri, the Perlis PAS commissioner.
As for Sena assemblyman Asrul Nizan Abdul Jalil, who spoke on behalf of Pakatan Harapan (PH) representatives present at the swearing-in, congratulated Azlan on his appointment as MB.
“It is our hope, as the Tuanku has said, to work together to develop the state, and to reduce politicking.
“PH will work together to ensure the development of Perlis, and the welfare of the people are cared for,” he said.
He said that compared to the behaviour of the nine BN representatives who boycotted the swearing-in ceremony, the PH assemblymen were more big-hearted and more politically mature by being present at the palace.
“We view what the Tuanku said very seriously.
“By right, we have nothing to do with the appointment of this MB, because BN are the ones with the majority, not us.
“The action of the nine has aggrieved the Raja of Perlis even more,” he added.
