PETALING JAYA:
Former Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw, who had defended Najib Razak over the 1MDB issue before the general election, today maintained his stand that investigators should be probing the state fund’s management team for alleged mismanagement.

“That is my stance, and it will always be my stand,” he said, adding that he could not say Najib was guilty, based on the Auditor-General’s Report presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“In PAC, we found that the management was not transparent and should be investigated further,” he said when asked about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe into alleged wrongdoing at 1MDB.

He said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had always said the rule of law would be upheld.

“Follow the legal process and charge the management if there is enough evidence,” he added.

Tan, who was formerly a member of PAC, said Najib should not be held accountable for the sovereign fund’s dealings as he was not involved in them.

Before the May 9 election, Najib claimed DAP had dropped Tan from its candidate line-up because he was speaking “the truth” about 1MDB. Tan, a senior politician, had held the Kepong parliamentary seat for eight terms.

The 1MDB audit report was declassified after Pakatan Harapan won the general election. According to the report, senior 1MDB officials had withheld information from the board and made some decisions without the board’s approval.
