Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was responding to Shukri who had earlier alleged that “someone” had gone after him to stop him from blowing the lid on a sensitive corruption investigation involving the former prime minister (Najib) and his brainchild, 1MDB.
“If there is a report, then it is SOP (standard operating procedure) to investigate.
“Police will establish the facts of the case and will investigate accordingly,” he told reporters.
“If he feels that his life was threatened, he should make a report,” said Muhyiddin.
Shukri had earlier said that on July 27, 2015, he was ready to prepare charges with former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, who was also part of a special task force to investigate the 1MDB scandal. The task force was disbanded just months after its formation.
Shukri claimed he got word that he would be arrested the same day and quietly prepared to urgently leave the country for the United States.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police would look into the matter.
Meanwhile, commenting on reopening the murder case involving Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu, Fuzi said he would discuss revisiting the case with his officers.
Since Sirul Azhar Umar, who was convicted of the murder of Altantuya, had requested a full pardon in exchange for “additional information”, calls have been made by the Pakatan Harapan government to reopen the case.
DAP lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh said Sirul was in no position to negotiate for a full pardon.
