PETALING JAYA:
M Kayveas has been taken to task for claiming that the party is quitting Barisan Nasional (BN) despite his sacking as party president.

“Who is he to speak on behalf of the party? He was sacked,” said myPPP deputy secretary-general Simon Sabapathy.

Speaking to FMT, Simon said this in commenting on reports that Kayveas had pulled the party out of BN.

Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that Kayveas announced the end of the party’s association with BN and that the party would move on and support the present government, formed by Pakatan Harapan.

Kayveas also said he had received a letter from the Registrar of Societies stating that he was the rightful president. But Simon cast doubt on the letter, saying if it were true, then the party’s supreme council members would have received it.

“As far as the supreme council is concerned, he has been sacked in line with the provisions of our party constitution,” he said, adding Kayveas did not appeal the sacking within the 14 days allowed.

“According to our constitution, in the absence of a president, the senior vice president will assume the role of acting president, and in this case, that is Maglin D’Cruz.”

Simon added that the RoS and BN had both acknowledged that D’Cruz was the party’s acting president.

He said the party would seek a court order to stop Kayveas from making statements on behalf of the party.

Kayveas had been unhappy with the BN leadership for not selecting him as the BN candidate for Cameron Highlands for the general election on May 9.
