Law, who did not contest in the recent polls, was PKR’s state assemblyman for Bukit Tengah.
Chow said the first assembly sitting for the new term would begin in early June, with Law expected to preside over it.
“We will nominate Law for the new term. If there is any other nomination from the opposition, then we will put it to a vote. It is the position of Pakatan Harapan to nominate Law to continue as speaker of the assembly.
“In regards to the deputy speaker, we will decide when the time arises,” Chow said in a press conference at Komtar today.
On a separate note, Chow said federal agencies based in Penang such as the Penang Regional Development Authority and state Development Office would likely see a change of staff.
He said the Penang state secretary would serve a termination notice to these officers.
“This applies to officers and contract workers who were appointed by the previous federal government,” he added.
Chow was responding to a reporter who had asked him about rumours of mismanagement in federal agencies in Penang.
