ALOR SETAR:
We’ll be watching how you perform. This is the message sent today by Kedah PAS to the Pakatan Harapan-led minority Kedah government.

Kedah PAS chief commissioner Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi, in a statement today, made no mention of any intention to form any sort of unity government with either PH or Barisan Nasional.

PH secured 18 out of 36 state seats in the May 9 election. It is one short of a simple majority of 19.

On Friday, Kedah PH chairman Mukhriz Mahathir was sworn in as the new Kedah menteri besar, making his comeback after he was ousted two years ago.

Fakhruddin said that while Kedah PAS was not successful in its quest to take over the Kedah government, it had increased the number of seats won from nine to 15.

“This success is thanks to the hard work of all members and election machinery workers at all levels, as well as the rakyat’s rejection of the past administration.”

He said PAS welcomed members of other political parties, such as Umno, to join hands with PAS in its quest to build a Kedah that is “Sejahtera, Dinamik dan Harmoni” (Prosperous, Dynamic and Harmonious).

Fakhruddin said PAS would protect the harmony of the different races and uphold the interests of Islam in Kedah.

In the May 9 election, BN, which held 20 seats previously, was reduced to a mere three seats — Guar Chempedak, Sungai Tiang and Bandar Baharu, held by former senior exco members Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail, Suraya Yaacob and Norsabrina Mohd Noor respectively.

There had been speculation that both Suraya and Norsabrina may move to PH but this has since been denied.

Mukhriz said he will choose the 10 state executive councillors and state assembly speaker soon.
