KUALA LUMPUR:
Kuala Lumpur police have denied claims that police had raided the Pavilion Residences in Bukit Bintang as part of an investigation into a report alleging luxury items were stashed away in a condominium unit linked to the family of former prime minister Najib Razak.

“There was no raid. Police only came to take statements from the auxiliary police based there following a police report made on a video clip,” said city police chief Mazlan Lazim as quoted by Bernama.

He said police had gone there to check CCTV recordings.

“The Reuters report is not true. Fake news,” he said.

Yesterday, Reuters said about 20 police officers had entered the Pavilion Residences in Jalan Bukit Bintang, following a police report claiming dozens of Birkin handbags worth some RM10 million belonging to Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, were transferred to the apartment block.

The report said police had also searched for “sensitive documents” the new government feared could be taken out of the country.

Earlier, a police report filed by a member of PPBM alleged that vans bearing the logo of the Prime Minister’s Department had delivered boxes for 50 Birkin handbags to Pavilion Residences on Thursday.

Two photos accompanying the report showed a van with the department’s logo and a shopping trolley filled with orange boxes, although the photos could not be verified by FMT.
