
This means that Pakatan Harapan (PH), which has a simple majority in the state, will form the new Kedah government.
PH, under the common PKR logo, won 18 of the 36 state seats in the Kedah state assembly, with BN reduced to a mere three seats from the previous 20 it had held.
The remaining 15 state seats were won by PAS.
In a statement, Bashah said: “To us, the democratic system and Federal Constitution need to be upheld to ensure the harmony and prosperity of the nation are kept.”
He said in the time that BN had been given to run the state, it had carried out that trust wholeheartedly to ensure that the people’s welfare, the state’s development and overall well-being were preserved.
“I wish for Kedah and Malaysia to continue to develop, and the sovereignty upheld,” he added.
