Yew, who says no government is perfect, is banking on Barisan Nasional’s (BN) success in running the country to win over voters.
“No one can say they are the best and no one can say they have not made mistakes.
“Can anyone even say they have not made any wrong decisions?” he asked in an interview with FMT.
The Federal Territory MCA chief added that BN was constantly improving itself and implementing better policies for the people.
BN’s decision to field an MCA candidate in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency instead of someone from Umno had caused some friction between the two component parties.
However, Yew said Prime Minister Najib Razak’s recent visit to the area had boosted the morale of the BN machinery.
On the opposition playing up the 1MDB scandal, he said: “These are old stories and have been mentioned so many times.”
When asked about his chances for victory, Yew said: “I am trying my best. I have served the voters even before the election.”
Although PKR won Wangsa Maju with a majority of 5,000 votes in 2013, the recent redelineation exercise brought an additional 10,000 voters from the Malay-majority areas of Kampung Padang Balang and Kampung Changkat, which were formerly under the Batu parliamentary constituency.
Over half of the voters in Wangsa Maju are Malay and 40% are Chinese.
