Its president Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mohd Arshad Raji said in a statement: “Knowing how our Malaysian police function and their capabilities, we have full confidence in our men in blue. We are confident that should any undesirable element try to create chaos and disrupt the free conduct of the electoral process, the police will foil their plan and arrest them.”
Adding that the stakes in GE14 were very high, he said the police had an important role to play.
“If the results are close, there may be a pressing need for the police force to maintain peace and order in the hours prior to the announcement of the results. In the event that the losing party tries to create chaos, outsourcing criminal acts, our police force must arrest all these troublemakers even before the conduct of their planned criminal acts.
“Patriot has full confidence that the Malaysian police and the Malaysian armed forces will stand together with the Malaysian people.”
He was commenting on Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun’s statement that the police force was “100% ready” for the election and would ensure that all areas in Malaysia remained peaceful.
“We are also ready for any possibility after the election,” Fuzi was reported as saying.
Arshad also urged registered voters to vote without fear or favour and to be confident that their vote could not be traced back to them.
“Any reports or social media messages stating otherwise are not true. Reports stating that there may be chaos and asking you to stock up food supply are lies and have the ulterior motive to dissuade people from coming out to vote.”
Arshad said Patriot would like to see GE14 being conducted in a free manner, and that everyone should follow the rule of law.
“We would like to remind Election Commission officials of their oath in office. We are aware that there are returning officers who are members and office bearers of political parties. The incidents that happened during nomination day on April 28 did not give confidence to the people that the commission will do a good job.
“Please ensure that all officials on duty on May 9 – polling day – who are also civil servants, and may have political affiliations, conduct (their duties) with full discipline and impartiality. If the election is conducted in a fair manner, the result will be accepted as the will of the people.”
Arshad also cautioned civil servants against destroying important documents that may show impropriety in expenditure and awards of contracts. Any such conduct was a crime and a serious offence, he added.
Patriot is made up of retired military and police officers.
