
He reiterated that only the pictures of candidates and the two top leaders could be used, while at the state level, only the pictures of the party’s president, deputy president, liaison chairman or the equivalent, menteri besar or chief minister, and candidates based on the logo of the political party registered by the candidate on nomination day could be used.
“So why do people question that the pictures of certain leaders have been cut out when they (the opposition) agreed to use the PKR symbol in GE14?
“PH agreed to use the PKR logo in GE14. As such, only the images of the PKR president and deputy president can be displayed, not Mahathir’s as he is chairman of PH,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Hashim was commenting on the move by EC enforcement members to cut out the picture of Dr Mahathir Mohamad from a billboard in the Ayer Itam parliamentary constituency.
He added however that candidates were free to use their pictures on campaign materials in the areas they were contesting.
“The EC has also instructed that Barisan Nasional (BN) posters nationwide bearing the picture of the president of China be taken down by 445 personnel on duty comprising political parties, the Royal Malaysia Police, local authorities and EC officers. However, it was neither highlighted nor became viral.
“The same rules apply for all political parties,” he said.
