
Jailani, attired in the BN blue, was greeted with applause from the close to 12,000 supporters who had gathered there as early as 7 am.
He spent about 40 minutes over breakfast with the BN supporters and the five BN candidates.
Jailani is head of Hulu Terengganu Umno, deputy communications minister and was the local MP in the last Parliament. He was elected by 8,200 votes in the 2013 general election against Kamaruzaman Abdullah of PAS.
The BN candidate this time is Rosol Wahid, who was state assemblyman for Ajil from 1999 to 2013. In the four state seats in Hulu Terengganu, BN is fielding Tengku Putera Tengku Awang (Kuala Berang), Dr Ghazali Taib (Ajil), Rozi Mamat (Telemong) and Yusof Awang Hitam ( Manir).
