Its leader Francis Paul Siah said although Sarawak’s autonomy in immigration should be protected, it should not be abused through action taken along partisan lines.

He said recent examples of such abuse included the case of Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who was denied entry into Sarawak earlier this month while PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was allowed into the state last Sunday.

Likewise, he said, PKR’s Mohamed Azmin Ali, Nurul Izzah Anwar, Zuraidah Kamaruddin and Tian Chua had also been barred from entering Sarawak, along with DAP’s Teresa Kok and Hannah Yeoh.

“These are cases of blatant abuse of the state’s immigration autonomy.

“Sarawakians will surely support the chief minister if he bars extremists and bigots but certainly not elected representatives from the opposition,” he said in a statement.

“To MoCS, this is a clear reflection of the lack of moral courage in leadership and partisanship in governing, displayed by the Abang Johari administration.”

Siah said for a free and fair election to take place, all citizens should be empowered with information from both sides.

He also called on Sarawak’s politicians to hold the state and its people above all other personal or political interests ahead of the polls.

“GE14 has been touted to be the dirtiest election ever, but for us in Sarawak, why must it go down that ‘narrow’ path?”
