
According to Bernama, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said the student lodged the report at the Section 9 police station here at 8.53pm last night.
“The police are investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.
He said initial investigations revealed that the incident took place in February.
It is learned that the school has identified the students involved and a thorough investigation will be conducted.
Meanwhile, The Star reported that nine students were arrested and released on police bail yesterday.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat told the daily that the 17-year-olds were all from SMK Bukit Jelutong.
A 29-second video of the incident which went viral showed eight male students, including one who is believed to be a prefect, assaulting their classmate with a broom while singing “Happy Birthday”.
It is learnt that such acts are a tradition practised by students of the school to celebrate their friends’ birthdays.
