Don’t gamble with Sabah’s future, LDP leader tells Warisan veep

KOTA KINABALU:
Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Junz Wong has no right to judge good politicians given the opposition party’s willingness to gamble the political future of Sabah and Malaysia away by working with the “bad guy”, a Sabah BN component party leader said.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) organising secretary Peter Chong Su Leong said Warisan, which initially had proclaimed it was carving its own path, had resorted to collaborating with Pakatan Harapan (PH), led by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, knowing that the party did not stand a chance in the coming polls on its own.

“Warisan has willingly become a pawn of Mahathir. It shows that Warisan is not as well received by Sabahans as Junz claims,” said Chong in a statement.

He said Warisan could have contested all the parliamentary and state seats in Sabah if the party was confident about its capability, rather than working with peninsular-based parties which it had previously viewed with disdain.

“Warisan had been proud of being a pure local political party. Junz himself has even criticised DAP for not defending Sabah rights after quitting the party.”

Chong said it was regrettable that Warisan and Junz decided to work with PH, headed by Mahathir, to fuel its political ambitions.

“It is widely known that Mahathir had always been labelled as the ‘bad guy’ by the opposition and a dictator.

“But now Warisan can’t wait to bring Mahathir back into the picture,” he said.

“A dictator could destroy the whole system. Regrettably, Junz and Warisan are willing to gamble away our country’s future for their own interests.”

He pointed out that Sabah was still suffering from the consequences of Mahathir’s actions, including his alleged involvement in “Project IC”.

He said Wong had even blamed Mahathir as the mastermind behind “Project IC” and the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah in a statement released on Feb 19, 2014.

At that time, Chong said Wong had questioned Mahathir over his alleged involvement in the issuance of Malaysian identity cards to illegal immigrants and urged him to admit his mistakes and apologise to Sabahans.

“Does Junz remember what he had said? Or has he conveniently forgotten his statement after joining Warisan and striking a deal with PH?”

Chong took Wong to task for ridiculing LDP president Teo Chee Kang, who has been working hard to restore Sabah’s rights.

“Junz has admitted that Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang is a good man.

“So, why make such irresponsible remarks and judge the good politicians instead of the actual bad guy in politics?”

Although Warisan had chosen to work with the “bad guy”, Chong believed that the majority of Sabahans would support good, well-intentioned politicians.

“As Junz said, Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang and LDP vice-president Datuk Chin Shu Ying are both good men.

“Creating a fine political culture starts with choosing the good men in politics.”
