PAS No 2 to contest in Kubang Kerian

The party has not lost the seat since 1990, but this time it will likely be a three-cornered contest.

PETALING JAYA: PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man will contest in Kubang Kerian, according to a party source.

“He is very likely to contest there as PAS has not lost the seat since 1990,” the source told FMT.

Kubang Kerian was previously known as Nilam Puri, and was once held by the charismatic Mohd Asri Muda who led PAS in the 1970s.

Several former PAS big wigs had also represented the federal seat, including current Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, as well as Husam Musa and Salahuddin Ayub.

In 2013, PAS’ Ahmad Baikhaki Atiqullah defeated Barisan Nasional’s Anuar Safian by a 16,741-vote majority. Husam had then won in the state seat of Salor under the constituency.

Husam is speculated to stand in the Kota Bharu parliamentary seat.

Apart from a BN candidate, Tuan Ibrahim is likely to face off with former Universiti Sains Malaysia lecturer Dr Abdul Halim Yusof from Amanah.

Tuan Ibrahim who hails from Pahang lost in the Jengka state seat in the last polls.
