I want to hear from Najib, says Rafidah after Mindef response

The former minister says only the prime minister should reply to her allegations over Armed Forces land.

PETALING JAYA: Rafidah Aziz today continued her hard-hitting comments against Najib Razak, hours after the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) released a statement denying her allegations about thousands of hectares of army land being leased to a private company without going through open tender.

“Sorry, my open letter was addressed to the prime minister, and not the defence minister. What more a unit called ‘UKK Mindef’,” she said, referring to Mindef’s corporate communications unit.

The former Umno Wanita chief who has now aligned with her former boss Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the coming polls, said she would only hear from Najib himself to rebut her allegations.

“Where is the cabinet paper that approved the privatisation,” she asked, adding that any other explanation from Mindef officers were only about procedures and processes in implementing projects.

Mindef has denied Rafidah’s allegations that the entire federal land utilised by the ministry had been transferred to a company owned by three individuals.

It said the development of the land adhered to proper procedures.

“The appointment of the company to implement development projects under the defence ministry, including the land swap privatisation method, is in accordance with the procedures established under the Public Private Partnership Unit (Ukas),” it said.
