According to the Election Commission (EC) statistics made available to the media after being gazetted today, 2,388,614 are regular electors; 25,462 early voters, comprising military personnel and their spouses, and 998 absentee voters, who are overseas.
Johor recorded the second highest number at 1,817,999, followed by Perak (1,510,864); Sarawak (1,220,960); and Kedah (1,146,492).
Three states with the lowest number of voters were the Federal Territory of Putrajaya with 27,306 voters, Labuan with 28,356 and Perlis with 150,221.
The electoral roll in the fourth quarter of 2017, containing the names of 14,940,624 electors, will be used for the GE14.
Women make up 50.58% or 7,557,187 of the voters, and men number 7,383,437 (49.42%).
In terms of age groups, the EC statistics show that voters aged between 30 and 39 make up the highest percentage at 23.92%, followed by those aged between 50 and 59 (18.35%) and those aged between 21 and 29 (17.02%).
A total of 66,831 voters (0.45%) were aged 90 and above, while 278,016 voters (1.86%) are aged between 80 and 89.
The number of seats up for contest in the GE14 remains the same as in GE13, that is 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats.
Eleven NGOs and three local universities have been appointed as local observers for the GE14, beginning from the nomination day on April 28 until the results of the election are announced.
In Peninsular Malaysia, the NGOs and universities involved are the Malaysian Youth Council, Persatuan Pengundi Wawasan Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Persatuan Orang Kota Bharu (OKB).
In Sarawak, six NGOs appointed as local observers are Sarawak Malays National Association, Orang Ulu National Association, Dayak Bidayuh National Association, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sibu Melanau Association and Miri Chinese Association.
In Sabah, the two NGOs appointed as local observers are Sabah Youth Council and Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce.
As for international observers to GE14, seven countries have confirmed their attendance so far, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Maldives, Timor Leste, Azerbaijan, Cambodia and Kyrgystan.
