KUALA LUMPUR:
A witness who survived a bus crash along the Karak expressway last night claims that the other passengers were “thrown off their seat”.

“It happened so fast and everybody was thrown off their seat,” said Singaporean Yip Keng Yim, 19.

Also on board were her parents, a cousin and an aunt, she said, adding that they were seated in the middle seats of the bus.

She said they were returning from Genting Highlands and left the resort about 1 pm to return to the republic.

“Since boarding the bus, I was not able to sleep because the bus was being driven at high speed. Suddenly I heard a loud crash, and then everybody fell off their seat,” said Yip, who was injured on the face, when met at the Selayang Hospital here, where all the injured were sent for treatment.

Yip said her father sustained serious injuries to his leg.

Meanwhile, Gombak police chief Asst Cmsr Ali Ahmad said the bus steward, Carles Lagan, 26, a Sabahan, was killed in the crash.

The body was sent to Selayang Hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

He said there were 12 passengers on the bus, all Singaporeans. Ten of them were injured, as well as the bus driver and co-driver, and the lorry driver.

The accident occurred at about 3pm when the bus crashed into the rear of the lorry.
