PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan needs the consent of the Election Commission for its plan to use a common logo for all four members of the alliance, EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said today.
He said the commission had yet to receive official notice of Pakatan Harapan’s plans and had only known of it from news reports.
He said the power to approve the use of symbols rested with the EC. “The commission must give approval, whether they want to use a new logo or similar such matters.
Last night, Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that the alliance would use Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s oval eye symbol.
Hashim explained that political parties were registered under the Registrar of Societies, after which they should refer to the Election Commission. “If use of the symbol does not offend regulations, it would be approved,” he said.
