“When you get bitten by a mosquito, how do you feel?” the outspoken Umno Supreme Council member told FMT, when asked if the decision by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) today would have an impact on Barisan Nasional (BN) at the coming polls.
“You scratch it and you still enjoy it, it’s nice to scratch,” said Nazri, adding that voters had made up their minds on who to support at the next general election.
“We want to win after a strong fight (with the opposition) and not because any party was declared void,” he said after launching the Malaysia Smart Tourism 4.0.
RoS today slapped a “provisional dissolution” on PPBM, citing the party’s failure to furnish documents and details within the stipulated period.
This followed an earlier notice by RoS to submit minutes of its branch, divisional and central leadership meetings, as part of investigation into hundreds of complaints filed by PPBM members.
Nazri defended RoS’ action, saying it was PPBM which had decided on the clauses in its constitution.
“Nobody forced you to put anything there, you decided on it and now you must follow the law.
“What they put in are all the requirements of any legal party in the country and so they have to comply with them.”
Nazri said it was due to issues facing PPBM that RoS could not approve the registration of Pakatan Harapan, the four-party opposition alliance.
“You have to follow the law, remember Umno was declared as an illegal party because we didn’t comply with our constitution,” he added.
PPBM, headed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was formed in 2016, a year after the fallout between Prime Minister Najib Razak and his then deputy Muhyiddin Yassin over the 1MDB issue.
RoS’ announcement today comes amid speculation that Parliament will be dissolved tomorrow to pave the way for the 14th general election.
Early today, PH leaders said they had agreed to use a common logo in the polls. The coalition said the logo, which now will be either from PKR, DAP or Amanah, will be announced at a rally in Johor tomorrow.
