DAP to contest in peninsula under another party’s logo?

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng says the decision to use a common logo could impact the party.
KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP today admitted that it was not easy to agree on using one common logo in the peninsula for the coming general election (GE14).

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said, however, that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) partners had agreed that the DAP logo could be used in Sabah and Sarawak.

He added that the decision to use a common logo in the peninsula could “impact” DAP although he did not elaborate.

“But it is to have one-on-one fights with Barisan Nasional (BN) as PH is still not recognised (by the Registrar of Societies) as a coalition,” he said during a press conference at the Parliament media centre.

Asked whether the party logo would be used in the peninsula, Lim said PH’s decision would be announced tomorrow.

Lim’s remarks indicate that the party may not use its own logo in the peninsula. There has been speculation that PH will contest GE14 under the PKR logo.

This followed PH’s announcement today that a common logo would be used in GE14.

Its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he would reveal the logo at a ceramah in Pasir Gudang, Johor, tomorrow.

Mahathir added that PH had made contingency plans in view of the problems it was facing: from the failure to register PH as a coalition to the possibility of PPBM’s deregistration.

PPBM was in fact deregistered today by the Registrar of Societies.

Mahathir had further said that using one logo showed that DAP did not have the intention of vying for the post of prime minister. BN has been telling voters, especially in the rural areas, that DAP’s Lim Kit Siang might become prime minister if the opposition wins in GE14.

“We want to work together to win Putrajaya. It is time for change,” Mahathir added.
