Beached whale in Kudat rescued

Civil defence force with help from state Fisheries Dept, Sabah Parks and police help keep 2.2-ton whale alive before pushing it out to sea.

A whale measuring about 4.5 metres long with an estimated weight of 2.2 tons was found stranded on the beach of Kampung Indarason Laut, Kudat this morning.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) in a statement said a member of the public called the department at about 5.05am to inform that the beached whale was still alive.

“Workers from the Kudat district operations office rushed to the location and with the help of other related agencies, they immediately sprayed sea water over the whale to keep it alive,” the statement said.

According to APM, the whale was successfully pushed back to the sea and the rescue operation ended at 10.08am.

Among the agencies involved in the operation were the police, Sabah Parks, and the state Fisheries Department.
