KUALA LUMPUR:
An orphanage in the city is feeling the pinch as donations have dropped due to the challenging economic conditions.

Rumah Titian Kaseh warden Haslinda Dol Hamid said members of the public were more charitable in the past.

“Previously, it was very easy to get what we needed and even more,” she said.

“Nowadays, you can tell people are less generous when it comes to giving donations. Even when we ask, it takes a while before we get what we need.”

Haslinda said rising costs in matters such as in school fees and food were not helping the situation.

“The price of food has gone up and because we have to feed so many children, orphanages can really feel the pinch.”

Rumah Titian Kaseh, located on Jalan Persiaran Titiwangsa, currently houses 90 orphans.

Haslinda spoke to FMT during a treat for the children by NY Steak Shack at Melawati Mall here.

She said such rare events were a blessing.

“The children never go hungry at the orphanage but it’s rare that they get to eat such luxurious food.”
