The movement plans to hand over a memorandum to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia, asking him to withdraw the report which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament today.

However, Dang Wangi police chief Shaharuddin Abdullah has ordered Bersih to choose four representatives who will be allowed to enter Parliament premises.

When asked if the protesters would be arrested if they went against orders, Shaharuddin said it would depend.

“The decision lies with me,” he added.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Bersih had not been given any permit to protest in front of the Parliament building.

The Red Shirts movement, led by Umno’s Jamal Yunos, had pledged a counter-rally at the same location.

“Neither side requested for a permit to hold their protests but the police will be ready. We will take appropriate steps and monitor so that nothing happens,” Fuzi had said.
