Police to tackle serious debt problem among personnel

IGP Fuzi Harun says those identified will be given guidance and assistance in managing their finances.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is collaborating with financial institutions including Bank Negara Malaysia in efforts to overcome the serious debt problems among its personnel.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said those with a take-home pay below 40% of the gross salary would be identified and included in the target group for monitoring purposes.

“They will be given guidance and assistance in managing (their) finances prudently, and will be helped in stages (to stop them) from going deeper into serious debt problems.

“We think that if this (problem) is not addressed as soon as possible, it will have a negative implication on the integrity of the individuals (policemen),” he said in his speech at an event in Cheras here yesterday.

Fuzi said the collaboration was also aimed at implementing appropriate financial screening and intervention for those with such problems.
