Groom-to-be charged with robbing hotel manager

The finance manager claims trial to stealing mobile phones, a gold chain and cash totalling RM18,000.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man, who is set to get married on Thursday, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of robbing a hotel manager of his valuables and cash worth RM18,000 last year.

Low Ley Huat, a finance manager of a real estate company, claimed trial after the charge was read to him before Judge Zaman Mohd Noor.

The 38-year-old had allegedly, with eight others still at large, robbed T Daniel Raj, 34, of two mobile phones, a gold chain and RM2,500 cash in front of Scott Club, Scott Garden, Jalan Klang Lama, at 5.15am on Dec 30, 2017.

He was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if found guilty.

Zaman set bail of RM8,000 in one surety on condition that the accused did not interfere with the prosecution witnesses and ordered him to report to the nearest police station every month.

The court set April 17 for mention.
