KUALA LUMPUR:
A policeman was injured when he tried to apprehend a man who had attempted to seize the firearm of another policeman on sentry duty at the Sungai Long police station in Kajang, Selangor, early today.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said in the 2.40am incident, the 23-year-old man tried to seize the HK MP5 firearm from the policeman manning the sentry post.

“There was a scuffle between the man and the policeman on sentry duty but the suspect was apprehended with help from other policemen on duty at the information desk,” he said in a statement here.

Mazlan said one of the policemen who helped to arrest the suspect injured his right hand.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, who had a criminal record for cheating, was under the influence of drugs, he said.

Mazlan said the case was being investigated under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 for disorderly conduct at a police station and Section 332 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out his duty.
