KUALA LUMPUR: The long-awaited rail link connecting KL Sentral to Subang Skypark is expected to commence operations in early May.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chief executive officer Rani Hisham Samsudin said the rail service would have one stop in Subang Jaya before heading straight to the Subang Skypark in an estimated time of 28 minutes.

“We are currently conducting the final tests on the trains as well as finalising the ticket price with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD),” he said.

The trains can ferry about 300 passengers at a time, and this is aimed at easing traffic congestion as well as serving airline passengers and those working in the Skypark terminal.

The RM521 million project was commissioned in 2013 for completion in 2016, before receiving a time extension to June 2017.

KTMB, which has now officially partnered with Grab, an e-hailing application, also aims to continue providing services for its passengers till their end mile.

“We hope with this latest extension and our partnership with Grab, we can continue to provide seamless public transportation to everyone,” said Rani Hashim.

Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh said KTMB passengers would enjoy exclusive discounted rides during festive seasons and would be allocated designated pick-up and drop-off zones at all major KTMB stations.

Grab, which is Southeast Asia’s leading on-demand transportation, has drivers across the board, including taxi and private drivers for its GrabCar service.
