The only parliamentarian among them, Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin, had only RM900 in his bank account, but had two properties in Sri Gombak and Nilai, collectively worth RM1 million, and other net assets worth RM286,900.
The Amanah supreme council member earned RM25,000 per month as an MP and RM10,000 as a lawyer.
His monthly expenditure as of March 11 included loan instalments for his houses, a Honda CR-V, contributions to his constituents and his party, utility bills, spousal support, operational costs for his legal firm and parental allowance, amounting to RM26,600.
The details of the PKR and Amanah politicians’ declarations ahead of the 14th general election (GE14) were released by Invoke today, following a press conference to announce the initiative on Tuesday.
Amanah strategy director Dzulkefly Ahmad had RM50,000 in his bank account, while his net assets were valued at RM1,984,050 with total debt at RM450,000.
Dzulkefly’s assets included land purchased from his father-in-law, valued at RM2 million, where he built a house with his wife.
Other assets included land located in Rembau and Kuala Pilah, each valued at RM100,000.
Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin had RM35,000 in his bank account while his assets were valued at RM638,000 with debts at only RM9,000.
Nizar, however, raked up a high utility bill of about RM8,000. He earned RM12,000 through his salary as Perak state assemblyman, and RM4,000 through government pensions due to his former posts as Perak menteri besar and Bukit Gantang MP.
PKR’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil declared RM5,000 in his bank account while his net assets were valued at RM1.056 million.
The bulk of his assets were from ownership of properties, including an apartment in Ampang Jaya and land in Trolak, which were both family gifts.
Fahmi’s debts were valued at RM40,000, accumulated from a car loan and credit card bills.
Meanwhile, Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil was revealed to own an Audi A4 car worth RM120,000, as well as a Mazda 3 and a Honda Cub.
Faiz also had RM181,007 worth of Tabung Haji savings, with net assets valued at RM641,637.94 and debts from both vehicle and housing loans at RM317,374.49.
PKR Johor Bahru division chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir was revealed to have RM15,088 in his bank account and net assets valued at RM588,143.43.
Akmal, who is also the National Oversight and Whistleblowers Centre (NOW) director, accumulated debts of RM276,490 from property, vehicle and personal loans.
Yesterday, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu, listed RM105,000 as the amount of money he currently possessed, including a fixed deposit account.
He also owns five properties, including the house he currently resides in, which is under the name of his wife, as well as a house in Sepang valued at RM300,000 for which he still owes the bank RM70,000.
All in, he and his wife own property valued at RM758,000, including two plots of land in rural Penang and Perak.
He also has some RM220,000 in current market value of unit trusts and insurance, although his Tabung Haji account balance is a mere RM600.
Invoke founder and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had said on Tuesday that politicians who had not declared their assets would feel pressured to do so when there was a visible expectation from the people to do so.
“Those who want to do so can still come to us. Even with the 70 that we convinced so far, it was not easy,” he said.
“Some of them are embarrassed to declare, worried about judgements that may be passed.
“Some are worried about people going to them to ask for money,” he added.
Earlier today, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced that members of his administration, together with state assemblymen, would be declaring their assets on March 31.
DAP MP Tony Pua, who is the party’s publicity chief, said the party’s elected representatives would declare their assets only after becoming ministers or state executive councillors.
