KUANTAN:
The decision on the inquest into the death of a father and daughter at a go-kart race will be on March 29.

The incident happened at the Educational Innovation in Motorsport and Automotive Race (EIMARace) 2016 on Jalan Skupa, Indera Mahkota, here.

Sessions Court judge Sazlina Safie set the date on behalf of coroner Dazuki Ali who is attending a three-day course.

The case was initially fixed for decision today after 20 witnesses had given their testimony in the proceedings, which commenced on Dec 11 last year.

The inquest was held to determine whether there was negligence or an element of crime in the incident in which a go-kart crashed and killed two spectators, Izwan Isa, 39, and Nur Zulaikha, 5, at the race on Sept 25, 2016 around 11am.

The go-kart was believed to have skidded and hit three other go-karts, resulting in fatal chest injuries to Izwan and serious head injuries to his daughter.

Deputy public prosecutor Wahida Zainal Abidin, lawyer Syed Azimal Amir Syed Abu Bakar, who represented the race organiser Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Che Ariffin Mohd Ali, representative for the victim’s family, assisted the court in the inquest.

Others who assisted were Mohd Syahril Daud (Motorsports Association of Malaysia), Juliana Abu Bakar and Rosmah Rosli (Kuantan Municipal Council), and Ahmad Hazwan Hamdan (Fraser’s Hill Development Corporation).
