Sentul deputy police chief Supt Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa said the incident occurred at 11.40pm yesterday and identified the deceased as Mohd Firdaus Abdul Mutalib, 41.
The body was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post mortem, he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the injured worker, known only as Zulhilmi, who was hurt in the leg, was sent to Selayang Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, MMC Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd in a statement said no member of the public was involved in the incident, which occurred completely within the confines of the work site and did not impact any public area.
It said the worksite is under Work Package V203 and the work package contractor (WPC) is IJM Construction Sdn Bhd.
According to the statement, MMC Gamuda, which is the delivery partner of the construction of the MRT’s Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line, together with the project owner Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd, has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
It said the use of launching gantries for constructing the MRT elevated guideway followed the most stringent safety procedures.
“Those which have been installed are safe,” the statement said.
Nevertheless, it said precaution, safety checks and procedures had been stepped up at all existing launching gantries for the project.
“MMC Gamuda, MRT Corp and all involved in the project extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims. All support needed will be provided to the families during this difficult time,” it said.
