Lim said in recent times Kuok has been targeted over his critical views against the government.
“I hope that when we talk about bullying, regardless of who controls your publication, it does not mean you can do what you like.
“One incident which is problematic, is how Kuok was targeted recently. Is it because he is Chinese, so you think he is easy to bully? He is no longer in Malaysia and he has his own views.
“He is of the view that the country’s environment is not good as there is corruption. This is his own view.
“Of course, we feel we should stay and fight,” he told reporters after the “Walk As One” programme held in conjunction with the “Penang Against Bullying” campaign on Occupy Beach Street today.
Three months ago, Kuok released a book entitled “Robert Kuok, A Memoir”. While some have commended Kuok, Malaysia’s richest man and one of Asia’s top tycoons for the views expressed in the 376-page book, others have questioned his loyalty to Malaysia and other assertions.
Among other things, Kuok, popularly known as the “Sugar King”, had written that he had moved his business headquarters to Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur in 1975 because of lower taxes in Hong Kong and his disdain for the New Economic Policy, implemented after the May 13 riots.
Kuok’s political insight and revelations also earned him brickbats from some.
Lim also weighed in on recent accusations by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin that Kuok had channelled funds to DAP through his nephew James. James has since denied this.
Lim said Kuok was now being targeted with accusations which were baseless and non-issues.
“His nephew has denied links with DAP, but it is still being played up in the media.
“All these fake news are a form of bullying. We are disappointed to see some Chinese media, especially Sin Chew Daily, not taking a stand in combating fake news,” he said.
Kuok has also come under attack from Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders reminding him that he would not have become as successful as he is if it were not for the government.
