PETALING JAYA: Philippine celebrity Ruffa Gutierrez, whose two daughters were reportedly harassed by some men at the Sunway Lagoon theme park here, wants the authorities to ensure that other people do not undergo a similar traumatic experience.

The actress and model, who was second runner-up in the Miss World 1993 contest, said although she and her family returned early to the Philippines after the incident, she bore no grudge against Malaysians.

She said in a message on Twitter yesterday that the park’s management had contacted her after news of the incident broke out.

“The general manager of Sunway Lagoon, Calvin Ho, reached out to me,” she said yesterday.

“This incident will hopefully be an eye-opener for the theme park. That it will not happen again to other innocent children and tourists in the future,” she said.

She said theme parks should not let “creepy men” into their premises.

“Theme parks should be a safe place for children and families to enjoy their holiday,” she said.

Gutierrez also hit out at the unidentified men who had reportedly disturbed and made cat-calls at her teen daughters who had arrived in Malaysia with her on Feb 12.

“They should stop harassing children,” she said.

“Even if I had to cut short our trip, I still experienced the best of KL,” she added, saying that she managed to catch up with friends and fellow Filipinos living here.

“Plus we went sight-seeing, and stayed at the best hotel in KL,” she added.

Gutierrez also clarified that she and her daughters had requested security personnel to escort them out of the park to make sure they reached their car safely.

“After we reported the incident, we decided to leave and have Sunway Lagoon take care of the creeps,” she said.

Meanwhile, the New Straits Times quoted Subang Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Azlin Sadari as saying that the police had yet to receive any report on the incident.

“No report was lodged by the victim,” he said.
