This was affecting the image of Ghanaians, it added.
It said cases of such fraudulent acts were being reported daily to the Ghanaian mission in Kuala Lumpur by the Malaysian authorities.
It said when the Nigerians were arrested, they were usually found with Ghanaian passports. However, these were not fake passports but genuine ones with biometric features.
These arrests, the newspaper said, had exposed Ghanaians in Malaysia to unnecessary humiliation, “making them face tough times in the hands of that country’s security operatives”.
The Daily Guide said this matter came to light during an interaction with the Ghanaian community in Malaysia by Ghana’s Local Government and Rural Development Minister Hajia Alima Mahama at the Ghanaian High Commission.
Hajia Mahama led Ghana’s delegation to the 9th Session of the World Urban Forum which ended here yesterday. The forum, organised by the UN Habitat, was attended by about 23,000 participants, including ministers and deputy ministers.
The newspaper said Hajia Mahama advised Ghanaians to live in peace with their hosts and to abide by local laws.
She also told them about the development programmes back home and urged them to woo Malaysian investors to invest in Ghana.
