Central Seberang Perai police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said a 60-year-old woman, the mother of two siblings arrested previously, was detained at 2.30pm today.
“She was arrested in front of the Bangunan Karpal Singh on Jalan Green Hall,” he said in a statement.
The woman, who lives in Taman Sejahtera, Bukit Mertajam, had no past criminal record, he added.
Her arrest comes on the heels of her two children, aged 36 and 39, being remanded until Feb 14 to assist in investigations.
Adelina, 26, had been working at their semi-detached house in Taman Kota Permai here.
She was spotted by a concerned neighbour with wounds on her hands and legs. She had also been seen sleeping next to a Rottweiler for two months.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem was carried out to identify the cause of death.
The procedure, carried out by Dr Amir Saad Abdul Rahim, forensic pathologist at the Seberang Jaya Hospital mortuary, identified the cause of death as “multi-organ failure secondary to anaemia”.
“It is possible that the deceased had suffered neglect,” he said.
On Saturday, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim’s aides had tried to visit Adelina at the house.
They then lodged a police report on the alleged abuse, claiming that the employers refused to cooperate with them.
Adelina was subsequently taken to the police station by her employers and later admitted to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
Nik Ros had previously said the case would be investigated for murder.
